Since 1979, ALESMA (the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School Music Association) has provided outstanding instrumental music instruction to upper grade students at Lincoln. ALESMA is a not-for-profit corporation run by parent volunteers.
Music is an inextricable part of the fabric of society which transcends all boundaries and cultures. Music education plays a significant role in any student’s growth and development -- it’s good for their minds, their hearts and their souls. Participating in band gives them skills, experiences and values that will serve them for a lifetime.
ALESMA is extremely proud of its program and what it brings to Lincoln students. Over two thirds of Lincoln students in grades 5 through 8 participate in band. We have the Cadet Band (primarily 5th graders), the Varsity Band (generally 6th graders), the Concert Band (7th and 8th graders), a Percussion Ensemble and a Jazz Ensemble. The bands perform in three seasonal concerts, in school assemblies and on special occasions. Advanced students may also perform solos and in small ensembles.
ALESMA is funded through student tuition and fees. We make every effort to ensure that no child is denied an opportunity to participate due to financial hardship. Scholarships are available based on financial need.
