Did anyone ask for an acronym? If you are unfamiliar with the LSC, CIWP, PARCC, NWEA, SQRP, then you should be coming to our exciting monthly meetings where you can learn about what is happening in your child’s education and what is in store for the future.
At the January 21, 2015, LSC meeting, which had been postponed due to weather, the LSC covered its regular agenda including the Principal Report and Committee Reports. We also began our CIWP (Continuous Improvement Work Plan) review. The February 5th meeting included a lively discussion about standardized testing including the PARCC, NWEA, and SQRP, and the State of Illinois’ threat to withhold 1billion dollars of state aid to CPS if the PARCC test is not administered. The PARCC exam is NOT utilized for high school enrollment or IG. PARCC will not be used for SQRP (School Quality Rating).
If that is not enough to grab your attention, then you may be interested to learn that we have 832 students! The LSC’s return from winter break brought the news that Lincoln has continued to grow even during construction of the Annex, which had been speculated to slow or even reverse Lincoln’s growth temporarily. The Annex and improvements to the current facility are on schedule to be completed July 29, 2015, and be ready to greet the students next fall.
You should also have received an email announcing that the LSC proudly and with great pleasure voted to renew Principal Armendariz’ contract for another 4-year term. This ensures Lincoln’s success as we grow and take root in the new Annex.
As I end this report, I hope that some of you out there are thinking of becoming involved in the school. We enjoy one of the highest percentage parent volunteer rates and there is always room for more. We will continue to need more and more parents involved as we grow. Come to an LSC meeting and see where you can fit into your child’s educational future, whether you help the PTA, FOL, EFAC, ALESMA, the Auction, or the LSC (more acronyms you should know!).
The next meeting of the LSC is set for Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the library.
